Here is our latest interview for the In Session series, a space where we get to know more about Wavezoo DJs.
1. How did you start DJing? Tell us about your origins
I started performing in the early 90’s. Which is when I purchased my first turntables. Through the years, I became a music artist and worked with professional emcee’s like Cappadonna of Wu-Tang. But the true origin was to be a DJ. That was my passion.
2. Who would you say are your influences?
My influences come from the birth of hip hop & wanting to be able to compete. Patterning my DJ style on a hip hop level like my favorite DJ, Kid Capri. Also DJ Mister C and Jazzy Jeff on the pro side.
3. What do you think about the future of DJing? Where we are headed?
The future of DJing looks promising in the ways of technology, new digital gear, awesome controllers are all nice. Honestly I’m not a fan of record pools. I am a collector of music. And I get music from local DJs.
I will use a streaming service when mixing, but I will get the song I need. From what I’m hearing, the industry is trying to have DJs use a record pool for venues so only certain content is played and to me that’s bad. Takes the freedom of expression away from the DJ. Same in the music biz.
4. What can people expect from your shows?
A J. Rockwell party will be live & lit. Playing the best old school, new school hip hop, R&B and reggae music, which can blend into a high energy dance music that will have your feet sore. To hire J. Rockwell means you want fun.
5. What would be your ideal party? Let people know what would be your top tracks
I gotta be honest, my ideal party would be a celebrity day party or DJing at a stadium venue with like 100000+ people to hear me.
7. Let the people know what is going on in your life
Here are some current life events that the public will enjoy. DJ J. Rockwell also goes by the name “Jasonkayne”. (The music artist) I am on most major music platforms like Apple music, Amazon, Tidal, Spotify, and social media like TikTok.
I am a singer, emcee, and produce tracks. Check out my latest track “Next to Me”:
