Here is our latest interview for the In Session series, a space where we get to know more about Wavezoo DJs. This time, we share the words of Vijay aka DJ Jay Daring, a DJ with over 25 years of experience in DJ-ing.
1. How did you start DJing? Tell us about your origins
I started off as a bedroom hobbyist in the late ’90s through my love of music. I wasn’t a fan of commercial music, so I was looking for something different. I always loved reggae and stayed open-minded to new genres.
2. Who would you say are your influences?
I was massively influenced by the culture around me. Living on a council estate and hearing a real mix of cultures was refreshing. From bad boy hip hop to skaters, it was there to be incorporated into a music style.
3. What do you think about the future of DJing? Where we are headed?
We are only moving forward with technology. We now have access to everything in the palms of our hands. As long as we still gather together to enjoy music, we have exciting times ahead. What’s around the corner? Who knows. But the DJ culture is being recognized massively.
4. What can people expect from your shows?
Madness. Don’t expect the norm. Weird and twisted edits and live mixes to grab your attention.
5. What would be your ideal party?
My ideal party would tick all the senses. Visually stunning. A choice of loud or deep. Crowded or alone. Virtual even.
6. Help other DJs to level up, give the community a tip that will improve other DJs performance
Interact and show as much information as possible. Let them see how you are using the software and hardware.
7. Let the people know what is going on in your life
I’m always making edits, tutoring in schools, and giving private one-to-one sessions. I’m also joining my local radio station for my own weekly show.
