Welcome to the latest installment of Wavezoo’s In Session series, where we dive deep into the world of our talented Wavezoo DJs.
Today, we have the pleasure of chatting with WhoisBriantech, a seasoned DJ whose journey in the music industry has spanned several decades and locations, from the bustling nightlife of NYC to his current base in Ithaca, NY.
1. How did you start DJing? Tell us about your origins
I’ve been DJing live at parties since the mid to late ’90s in NYC and up and down the East Coast. Currently, I’m based in Ithaca, NY.
2. Who would you say are your influences?
My influences include Masters At Work, Armand Van Helden, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, David Morales, Funk Master Flex, DJ Red Alert, Frankie Bones, Glen Friscia, DJ Sneak, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, CJ Mackintosh, Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Josh Wink, Ron Trent, Bobby Konders, Liquid Todd, Basement Jaxx, Derrick Carter, Steve Aoki, Claude Von Stroke, Tee Scott, Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Kid Capri, Mister Cee, Goldie, DJ Krust, Dillinja, Fat Boy Slim, Pete Rock, Lord Finesse, John Robinson, DJ Premier, Terminator X, DJ Craze, Afrojack, DJ Mr.V, and Stretch Armstrong.
3. What do you think about the future of DJing? Where we are headed?
The future of DJing looks bright. Everyone has the opportunity to pursue it if they choose.
4. What can people expect from your shows?
Expect an eclectic vibe with a mix of different genres, full of surprises.
5. What would be your ideal party? Let people know what would be your top tracks
An ideal party would feature tracks like Bucketheads with a classic rock dance music vibe, MK remixes of “Push the Feeling,” classic Deadmau5 songs, and Daft Punk.
Additionally, soulful house cuts like Crystal Waters’ “She’s Homeless,” energetic remixes from Armand Van Helden to MAW, soulful R&B and hip-hop by Mary J. Blige, and classic dance mashups of Michael Jackson, Elton John, and Lionel Richie.
6. Help other DJs to level up, give the community a tip that will improve other DJs performance
Definitely use your mic to get people involved in the stream. Acknowledge and interact with your audience to make them feel part of the party vibe. Add video clips related to your party vibe instead of just keeping the camera on yourself. Chop up the visuals to keep viewers entertained. Also, tell viewers how to follow you on your other social media platforms.
7. Let the people know what is going on in your life
I have a ton of projects I’m working on that will eventually be available for online store distribution. Currently, every last Friday of the month, I’m doing a 2-hour online radio show via Abusia Radio called “House of WhoisBriantech Show.”
