Here is our third interview for the In Session series, a space where we get to know more about Wavezoo DJs.
With a passion for dubstep music and a natural talent for spinning beats, today we travel to Brasilia to get to know NUMAflex and hear about his journey as a DJ. Let’s get started!
1. How did you start DJing? Tell us about your origins
Well, my first ever gig was at the legendary Garage in Rio de Janeiro. Got contacted via TramaVirtual, an internet only BR label back in the days of MySpace.
Then I asked two more artists from that same platform if they would like to join us for the night. It was just us playing our own music on improvised setup, limited by access to technology/gear, shout-out to SilverFox who spotted in no time my hidden MidiFighter last time we played.
2. Who would you say are your influences?
Back in the days, apart for respect to the pioneers DJs (Herc in the us…), jamaican sound system culture as a whole, dub, reggae, the Dnb sound, (we’re talking BR and early internet here) I had not much interest myself in selecting…
I had some references like Luke Vibert, Aphex, Paradinas, Jenkinsons, (I knew BR’s Marky, Patife) but only in halfway through it, around 2009-2010 when I got into/discovered the UK Dubstep sound and saw producers playing their own and their peers unreleased tunes (“jamaican dubplates”) and the whole movement I got truly blown away was at THAT moment I got my mind made up.
3. What do you think about the future of DJing? Where we are headed?
I don’t really know, as long as there are (not even necessarily NEW) music, as long as there are people wanting to VIBE together (or even alone) I think there will be it. It’s not like used to be, it’s all been done, but music is healing and it’s what’s close to real magic (you listen, you feel).
4. What can people expect from your shows?
The music itself. I’m truly sorry that I’m not into the performance aspect of the craft, it’s cheesey 😊

5. What would be your ideal party? Let people know what would be your top tracks
Are you tryna copy my homewerk?! LOL. Please make it different, a dream festival with all my references and no fillers would be killah (just one stage obviously I don’t want to choose between them), but in the end it’s just me wanting to see live those I haven’t a chance yet.
Anyway here’s wonderwall:
- Nia Archives – Luv Like
- LCY – Cherubim
- DJ Paypal – You Got Me
- AK 1200 – Juniors Tune
6. Help other DJs to level up, give the community a tip that will improve other DJs performance
When I played for Wavezoo crew, and getting to know the OBS set up (first Wavezoo interact) all at the same time, I had an idea of recording some of my own screen while running (Linux) xScreensaver modules, and I got it visually playing as overlay fading with my ugly face and such.
Not gonna lie, when I played for my dear Randall SILVERFOX, he deada** asked me if i was USING A WEBCAM FILTER, that hurted me beyond words. It was just a “crappy top” webcam, so may be good to avoid those.
It’s in my planning list to give an uphaul in the creative area with some lighting strips and an OF certified 4K webcam for the parties, will be LIT!
